WEEK 1
HEAVEN AT MY TABLE

Compassion Before Commission

Before Jesus sends them, He shows them.
Before He commissions them, He softens them.
 Before He gives them authority,
He gives them His heart.
He sees the crowds and feels compassion.
So, He calls His disciples closer.
Heaven begins with seeing people.

Matthew 9:36–10:1

“When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd…”
Then He called His twelve disciples to Him…

We often want assignment and action, but we don’t have alignment yet.
We want impact, but we’re not willing to have the interruption.

But Jesus models something different.

The word for “compassion” here implies something deep — a gut-level stirring. It’s not surface sympathy. It’s first a heart moved, then it’s action.
If you don’t feel compassion, you won’t feel commission.

The mission of God doesn’t start on a stage.

It starts at a table or in a living room.
It starts with slowing down long enough so that you can truly see and care for someone.

Before Jesus sends the disciples out to heal and preach, He invites them into His perspective.

“Look again.
 See what I see.
 Feel what I feel.”

Who has God already placed in your hands?

Your neighbor.
Your coworker.
The parent on your kid’s team.
The family member who avoids spiritual conversations.

The harvest isn’t far away. It’s already in your world.

Heaven at your table looks like compassion and then conversation.

Ask yourself:

  • Who in my world feels far from God?

  • When was the last time I slowed down enough to truly listen to them?

  • What keeps me busy, distracted, or emotionally guarded?

  • Do I see people as interruptions… or invitations?

What would it look like to open my table to that person this week?

Write the name of the person God is placing on your heart.

Share the name in our prayer group if you want your church family to pray alongside you for this person!

Jesus, please help me see people the way that You see them.
Soften me where I’ve grown numb.
Slow me down where I’ve grown hurried.
Show me who You’ve entrusted to me.
Break my heart before You use my voice.
Let compassion come before commission.
Make my table a place where heaven feels close.

Amen.

Invite “Your One” to Dinner

Mission starts at a table.
No sermon.
 No pressure.
 No agenda.
Just presence.
Because before Jesus ever sent them out —
 He invited them in.

This week, don’t focus on what you’ll say.
 Focus on how you’ll love.

"Heaven at your table" might just begin with:
 “I’m so glad you’re here.”
