Graves Into Gardens

“What a wild time to be alive.”  I normally would say this, sarcastically, as a remark on something innovative or a ridiculous news story.  

With the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, and subsequent life-altering, global changes to our everyday norms, it’s no longer a sarcastic remark and has now become an accurate statement about the current state of the world we live in.

To be completely honest with you; at times it has been quite difficult for myself, and I am sure at least a few of you, to not feel fear, uncertainty, hopelessness, anxiety, and sadness because of everything circulating regarding Covid-19.  These emotions were consuming me, controlling my thoughts, even making me feel paralyzed.  

The song “Graves into Gardens” by Elevation Worship with Brandon Lake helped break me from this trance of focusing on things out of my control and became my anthem. It helped remind me exactly who our God is.

You turn mourning to dancing
You give beauty for ashes
You turn shame into glory
You’re the only one who can

You turn graves into garden
You turn bones into armies
You turn seas into highways
You’re the only one who can 

Our God has already defeated death. We have victory over our shortcomings through Jesus dying on the cross for US.  During our highest high, HE is there and in our lowest low, HE is there.

‘Cause the God of the mountain
Is the God of the valley
There’s not a place Your mercy and grace
Won’t find me again

He is with us. He has been and always will be.  I find comfort in knowing He is in control, even with so many unknowns, He has a plan for the time we are in.  

And I know this isn’t easy.  I struggle with this every single day. But hopefully you can give this worship song a listen and feel “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).  We can’t control what happens in this life, but we can control what choices we make and have the opportunity to CHOOSE to worship our Lord, trust Him and focus on His faithfulness.
